GSA Contract Number GS-35F-0503S

Roam Secure, Inc. has innovated and led the field of emergency text alerting and information sharing for over six years. The Washington, DC metro region deployed the patent-pending Roam Secure Alert Network (RSAN™) solution in the aftermath of 9/11 to improve first responder communication, interoperability and public warning. Through continued use, feedback, development and expansion RSAN evolved into the national standard for text alerting. Hundreds of thousands of government leaders, first responders, employees, critical infrastructure personnel, businesses and citizens rely daily on the award winning emergency alerting system. More than 110 systems are used by cities, counties, states, federal agencies and key businesses across the country. RSAN systems delivered more than 22 million alert messages last year during all-hazards incidents and major disasters.

The Roam Secure Information Exchange (RSIX) is the first national exchange for emergency information where customers can share both public and private emergency information securely, reliably and in real-time. With RSIX, RSAN systems across regions and the country, and other third party information sources can share emergency information anywhere, anytime.

In addition to RSAN and RSIX, Roam Secure’s resource management tool, ACTIV, supports disaster response agencies, public health agencies and hospitals by providing a proven solution to manage, track, train and distribute resources when they are needed most in preparation for and during a crisis.

Whether clients are preparing for and responding to: hurricanes in the gulf states of Louisiana, Florida or Mississippi, an earthquake or tsunami in California, winter storms and wild land fires in Colorado, severe weather or terrorism in Philadelphia and the National Capital Region, Roam Secure’s technology has continually proven reliable. Citizens, employees, first responders and key personnel registered on Roam Secure’s systems have all received valuable information during all-hazards incidents and regional crises. Roam Secure’s patent-pending technology delivers targeted information quickly and reliably, with the capability to send more than 18,000 messages per minute, per server and has delivered over 40 million alert messages during all types of incidents.

Text-based Technology

RSAN leverages CAP compliant, text-based technology, such as SMS, to reach text-enabled devices including pagers, cell phones, PDAs, Blackberry, Treo, satellite phones, XM Satellite radio, instant messaging and e-mail. These messages provide timely, accurate information to selected groups (large and small) about where to go, what to avoid, and other time-sensitive information to secure public and personal safety during an emergency. RSAN also supports two-way communication, through a combination of cell phones, pagers, Blackberry, PDAs, email and desktop alerts. Additional features include: secure, role-based access; seamless failover and redundancy; use of short codes for rapid enrollment; and the ability to send notifications via fax and voice dialing for continuity of operations and internal communications. All Roam Secure solutions can be deployed on-site, or hosted by Roam Secure in redundant, secure geographically dispersed data centers.

Major cities, counties and states use RSAN for routine paging and dispatch to law enforcement, emergency management, fire fighters, school officials, public health officials and more. They also use RSAN to warn millions of citizens and businesses in seconds with specific, targeted information during emergencies and all-hazards incidents. RSAN has also been attributed to saving lives during severe weather, helping find missing children and elderly persons and tracking down crime suspects. Time and again during the London bombings, 9/11 and hurricanes Katrina and Rita – text worked when other traditional forms of communication failed.

The Power of Interoperability - a Regional Approach

In addition to deployments in local jurisdictions, federal entities and private companies, all Roam Secure systems are networked via RSIX to create a fully interoperable communication system across regions, states and the U.S. RSIX enables customers to opt in (or out) of live data feeds from Roam Secure and ACTIV systems throughout the US, as well as connect to real-time data feeds from local traffic, weather, news agencies and other sources of information. RSAN and RSIX are standards-based solutions (NIMS, NIEM and CAP-compliant) to support interoperability and information sharing across agencies, jurisdictions, levels of government, public and private sectors.
