Arlington County, Virginia

"Arlington built one of the most advanced network infrastructures in the nation. We are continuously looking for innovative ways to leverage this network to support first responders and the county. The Roam Secure Alert Network solves several of our communication needs and has tremendous potential for other areas within the county," said CIO of Arlington County Jack Belcher.

Arlington County, Virginia, whose emergency management personnel responded to and managed the 9/11 Pentagon incident, are using Roam Secure's RSAN-EMA as an advanced paging and notification system for its first-responders and emergency managers. They have also deployed RSAN-CoOp as an employee alert and Continuity of Government solution and RSAN-CWS as a community alert system.

Arlington County has placed special emphasis on emergency communication, interoperability and improvements that enable the county to maintain its "four minute response." The Pentagon After Action Report identified emergency communication as an area that needed improvement. For example, the Police and Fire Departments previously used proprietary paging systems that did not interoperate and had difficult and rigid interfaces to send out messages. Fire Chief Ed Plaugher, Emergency Management Coordinator Captain Mark Penn, County Manager Ron Carlee and the Department of Technology Services interviewed dozens of companies and their solutions before choosing the Roam Secure Alert Network to improve county-wide communication.
