Fairfax County, VA

Fairfax County, VA, located just minutes outside Washington, DC, is one of the largest counties in the nation, with a population of over 1,000,000, which exceeds that of seven states. Fairfax and Roam Secure are deploying the RSAN-EMA edition across multiple county agencies to deliver important emergency messages during a major crisis or emergency.

Fairfax County, Virginia is one of America’s first major counties to implement a comprehensive, enterprise-wide emergency notification system in response to a growing need for reliable, real-time communication during disasters. The Fairfax County Emergency Alert Notification & Warning Program (“EAN”) began in 2003 to ensure an effective structure for decision making, coordination and communication across its 43 agencies. The County chose Roam Secure to deploy its award winning Roam Secure Alert Network as the foundation of the EAN.

Today the EAN provides timely notification to over 14,000 public safety officials, first responders, County employees, identified emergency partners, volunteer groups and public officials during emergencies affecting public safety. The program has been recognized nationally as a resounding success, and has been nominated for a National Association of Counties Emergency Management and Response Achievement Award.
