George Mason University

George Mason University has purchased and deployed the patent pending Roam Secure Alert Network (RSAN). Campus public safety and university officials can quickly and reliably send targeted alerts via email, SMS on cell phones and other media to over 35,000 students, faculty and staff. Parents of Mason students can also sign up for the system, Mason Alert, at no charge by visiting https://alert.gmu.edu or by texting keyword: MASON to 411911.

Mason is located in the heart of Northern Virginia’s technology corridor just outside Washington, D.C. The university has campuses in Fairfax, Arlington and Prince William counties, offers classes in Loudoun County, and has an overseas campus in the United Arab Emirates. With RSAN, the entire student body at selected campuses and/or at targeted areas both on and off campus can be notified in seconds. The system is capable of reaching any text-enabled device including cell phones, pagers, e-mail, BlackBerry, instant messaging, and voice calls to landline and cellular phones. RSAN also integrates easily with other communication media being deployed across campus, such as message boards, providing a single interface with maximum reach using a layered approach to mass notification.

Mason purchased RSAN using the Virginia Statewide Alerting Network contract. They join a growing list of colleges and more than 140 RSAN systems across the region and the country at major cities, counties, state and federal government agencies, hospitals, airports, refineries and other key businesses for routine and emergency communication.

The Roam Secure Information Exchange (RSIX) enables Mason to automatically and securely share public and private emergency information with first responders where it has classes across Virginia as well as the 17 local jurisdictions of the National Capital Region. In case an accident unfolds at another college or in the region, Mason can stay informed by sharing information via RSIX and RSAN. Every Roam Secure customer is RSIX-enabled and can join the growing national emergency information exchange and share private and public all hazards emergency information regionally, statewide and nationally at no additional charge.
