XM Satellite Radio gives Roam Secure customers another reliable means to quickly deliver important emergency information to residents and businesses, even when traditional terrestrial means of communication are disrupted from a major catastrophe (earthquake, hurricane, tsunami, blackout, etc.) Arlington, Fairfax and Montgomery Counties and Washington, DC have been successfully delivering emergency alerts over XM via RSAN since September 2005. XM is America's number one satellite radio service with more than 6 million subscribers, operating in over 22 major metropolitan markets with live daily broadcast from studios in Washington, D.C., New York City and Nashville.
