Northern Virginia Community College Launches Roam Secure Alert Network for Emergency Notification

Roam Secure, Inc. today announced Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC) has purchased and deployed the patent pending Roam Secure Alert Network (RSAN). Campus public safety and university officials can quickly and reliably send targeted alerts via email, SMS on cell phones and other media to students, faculty and staff. Parents of NVCC students can also sign up for the system, NOVA Alert, at no charge by visiting https://alert.nvcc.edu or by texting keyword: NOVA to 411911.

NVCC is located in the heart of Northern Virginia’s technology corridor just outside Washington, D.C. The university has campuses in Alexandria, Annandale, Loudon, Manassas, Springfield and Woodbridge. With RSAN, the entire student body at selected campuses and/or at targeted areas both on and off campus can be notified in seconds. The system is capable of reaching any text-enabled device including cell phones, pagers, e-mail, BlackBerry, instant messaging, and voice calls to landline and cellular phones. RSAN also integrates easily with other communication media being deployed across campus, such as message boards, providing a single interface with maximum reach using a layered approach to mass notification.

“NVCC has taken great strides to keep our students, staff, parents and faculty informed via variety of methods and technologies. Text alerting is a primary way most of our students communicate on a daily basis. We can reach out to them quickly and track their responses as needed during routine events and emergencies using Roam Secure. The system also integrates easily with other systems in-place and when being deployed for enhanced security and communication,” said XXXX, NVCC’s XXXX.

NVCC purchased RSAN using the Virginia Statewide Alerting Network contract. They join a growing list of colleges and more than 140 RSAN systems across the region and the country at major cities, counties, state and federal government agencies, hospitals, airports, refineries and other key businesses for routine and emergency communication.

The Roam Secure Information Exchange (RSIX) enables NVCC to automatically and securely share public and private emergency information with first responders where it has classes across Virginia as well as the 17 local jurisdictions of the National Capital Region. In case an accident unfolds at another college or in the region, NVCC can stay informed by sharing information via RSIX and RSAN. Every Roam Secure customer is RSIX-enabled and can join the growing national emergency information

exchange and share private and public all hazards emergency information regionally, statewide and nationally at no additional charge.

According to David Drescher, CEO of Roam Secure, “NVCC has deployed a state of the art text alerting system that has been proven reliable over every major event for the past six years. NOVA also joined a rapidly growing number of universities and local governments across Virginia and the country deploying RSAN and RSIX to enhance emergency communication capabilities. Roam Secure supports over 50 systems in the National Capital Region and Mason will be interoperable with this expanding network.”
