Delaware Valley Launches Regional Alerting Systems

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter announced the launch of regional alerting systems and emergency evacuation plans Friday.

Top officials from Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Gloucester Counties will announce the launch of Cooper Notification's ReadyNotifyPA Web site.

The site, http://www.readynotifypa.org, has sign up information for residents of the counties to register to receive emergency text and voice alert notifications during an emergency. Subscribers may chose to may choose to receive other alerts, such as transportation delays and crime information.

Authorities said the "interoperable regional alerting system" can alert more than five million citizens during a hazardous incident.

Although the text message alerts are free, standard wireless provider text messaging rates apply.
