Cooper Notification Deploys Regional Emergency Alert System in Pennsylvania

Cooper Notification recently announced that its mass notification solution for emergencies is being used by the governments of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and in five neighboring counties. The company’s Roam Secure Alert Network (RSAN) has been deployed in a network dubbed ReadyNotifyPA, capable of reaching 5 million residents.

Providing information to the public as quickly as possible is one of the most critical factors in saving lives and preventing injuries during an emergency,” said Michael Nutter, Philadelphia’s Mayor, in a statement. “I am proud to be here today with my esteemed colleagues from across the region to announce a public warning system that will greatly enhance emergency response in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties.”

ReadyNotifyPA is now in its second stage of launch, following the first stage which was underway last August. The The Southeastern Pennsylvania Regional Task Force is now implementing ReadyNotifyPA, a free service for residents funded by U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

With ReadyNotifyPA, phone calls, e-mail and faxes are sent to cell phones, pagers, BlackBerries, and PDAs to notify people of emergency situations.

The regional alert system is synchronized using Cooper’s Roam Secure Information Exchange (RSIX). The regional RSAN platform integrates with RSIX for alerts like weather, traffic and river flood stage monitoring systems.

“Whether we are dealing with floods, winter storms, or threats to homeland security, emergencies don’t stop at our borders,” said Delaware County Council Vice-Chair John Whelan, in a statement. “Implementing a public warning system that transcends county lines will make our region better prepared for any kind of emergency.”
New Orleans, San Francisco, Washington DC, and now also Philadelphia are using Cooper Notification’s RSAN alert system for emergencies.
“We are pleased Philadelphia and the surrounding region has taken this important step in strengthening personal and regional alerting
capabilities for its community,” said David Drescher, general manager for
Cooper’s Roam Secure division, in a statement.

Headquartered at Houston, Cooper Industries operates eight divisions and generates revenues of $5.9 million, of which 87 percent comes from electrical components.
